ITINERARY

Day 1 – 3: KHWAI CONCESSION, BOTSWANA (Khwai Tented Camp)
The Khwai area of the Okavango lies along the northern boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve. This is an unfenced boundary allowing wildlife to move freely between the woodlands in the wet season, when water is plentiful, and back to the permanent rivers and lagoons in the dry season. The Khwai area offers the same wildlife experience as the Reserve with the added advantage of being a private concession, which means the ability to do walking safaris and night drives.

From Maun International Airport you will be transferred by light aircraft to Khwai Tented Camp. Khwai Tented Camp has recently been relocated to a semi-permanent site on the eastern border of Moremi Game Reserve. The new exclusive location on the banks of a lagoon flowing into the Khwai River, acts as a boundary between the reserve and the community area, offering visitors staying here several unique ways to experience Africa.

Besides daytime game drives, which often feature Africa’s big players – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe – at Khwai Tented Camp you will have the opportunity to explore the area after sunset on night drives. This activity, along with the guided walking safaris, allows an up close and personal experience with some of Africa’s nocturnal and more elusive animals. The camp also provides the opportunity to explore enormous leadwood and mopane forests, as well as open grasslands and the banks of the Khwai River on foot.

The camp preserves the romance of a bygone era. There are no permanent structures; everything can be removed to leave the wilderness exactly as it was found. You will enjoy spacious and comfortable tented accommodation, and private en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and bucket showers under the African night sky.

As the Khwai is a community-run concession all proceeds from tourism go directly to help local people and local projects through the Khwai Community Trust.

Day 3 – 5: LINYANTI CONCESSION, BOTSWANA (Linyanti Bush Camp)
The Kwando-Linyanti river system is home to a series of private game reserves, known for their exotic animal species and luxury safari options. An abundance of wildlife roams freely between the variety of habitats that make up these lush, unfenced reserves.

The big game in this area increases dramatically during the dry season (June to October) when the area hosts large herds of impala, blue wildebeest, giraffe and buffalo, as well as the world’s highest density of elephant. Several packs of wild dog are found in the area and lion, leopard and cheetah are frequently sighted. Night drives allow for the discovery of nocturnal creatures such as civets, genets, honey badgers and spring hares. This vast, untamed wilderness is the perfect location for those seeking a unique African adventure in an exclusive and remote big game habitat.

On day three you will fly by light aircraft to Linyanti Bush Camp, an intimate 12-bed luxury tented camp situated on the banks of Linyanti Marsh, in a private reserve which borders the western boundary of Chobe. The marshes are the only water source for miles around, and attract a huge variety of wildlife, plus a large number of birds.

You will enjoy some of the most spacious and comfortable tented accommodation available. The bathrooms are private and en-suite, consisting of fixed showers, as well as a flush toilet. Activities from the camp consist of game drives, game walks, night drives, mokoro safaris, boat cruises, and fishing.

The area’s relative remoteness, and enormous variety of wildlife, makes it a favored wild safari destination, and one of the best sought after areas in Northern Botswana.

Day 5 – 7: VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE (Victoria Falls Hotel)
One of the original natural wonders of the world, Victoria Falls is a World Heritage Site. Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe, and is an ideal place to combine game viewing and adrenalin-surging water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting in the world.

On day five we fly to Kasane airport, and transfer by vehicle to the Victoria Falls Hotel, situated in the Victoria Falls National Park. It is one of only three IS0-accredited hotels in Zimbabwe.

The Edwardian-style five-star hotel, built in 1904, combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. Set in lush tropical gardens with lily ponds, palm trees and semi-tropical shrubs, it provides the tranquillity and seclusion. The famous Falls are just a ten-minute walk away, and are clearly audible and visible from the opulent landmark. World-class service, and food and beverage choice and preparation second to none, make the hotel a magnet for international visitors and locals alike.

The ambience of the hotel is one steeped in history, and waking up to the sound of “the smoke that thunders”, seeing the sun rise beneath the mist of one of the seven natural wonders of the world, make a stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel utterly unforgettable.

Day 7 – 9: HWANGE NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE (Somalisa Acacia Camp)
Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe’s biggest reserve, home to a variety of wildlife, including giraffe, lion, zebra, a huge elephant population, and a population of wild dogs thought to be among the most sizeable surviving groups on the continent. Terrain ranges from desert dunes and savannah, to rocky outcrops and sparse forests.  You’ll have the choice of game drives, guided walks or horseback safaris.

On day seven we fly from Victoria Falls airport to Somalisa Acacia Camp, set in the heart of Hwange National Park and known for its big elephant herds.

Somalisa Acacia has recently under gone a complete rebuild and now comprises of two family units with inter-leading walkways between the parents and children’s rooms, as well as two standard sail tents. Each tent includes gauze sliding doors, a glass wood-burner fireplace for cold winter nights, and an overhead fan for hot summer days. Bathrooms are en-suite, including flush toilets, an indoor and outdoor shower, and a copper slipper-style bathtub. All the luxurious tents are on slightly raised decks, under the dappled canopy of a grove of acacias on the western side of Somalisa.

The camp enjoys its own private views of a small water hole, frequented by large herds of big game including buffalo, elephant, kudu, zebra, giraffe and lion. A small splash pool allows you to cool off during the heat of the day.

Activities on offer are game drives and walking excursions, and most of the activities are in the Somalisa private concession, within easy access of other parts of Hwange National Park.

Day 9 – 11: MANA POOLS NATIONAL PARK, ZIMBABWE (Zambezi Life Styles Camp)
The life-giving power of the Zambezi River makes Mana Pools National Park one of Zimbabwe’s most lush areas. This area is the country’s second World Heritage Site and is known as one of the continent’s greatest game-viewing regions. Canoe trips are offered year round and provide a unique and memorable way for visitors to experience the area’s striking scenic beauty and diverse fauna, while guided walks are a great way to take in its pristine riverside forests.

On day nine we head by light aircraft to Zambezi Life Styles, which offers one of the best ways to experience Mana Pools, nestled on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. The eight-bed luxury mobile camp is set up prior to your arrival.
