Zambia’s huge game reserves are less well known on the safari circuit, as they are sometimes harder to get to, but they offer up some of the most exceptional game viewing in Africa. Walking safaris in the South Luangwa National Park are a highlight, as well as the fertile Kafue National Park, thick with antelope and predators.
With its friendly and welcoming people, pleasant subtropical climate, and seemingly endless horizons, Zambia offers an old world, explorer’s Africa.
When is the best time to visit Zambia?
Being sub-tropical, Zambia’s climate is defined by the rainy and the dry seasons. It’s best to visit in the dry season (May to October), with lower daytime temperatures.
The rainy or ‘green’ season (December to April) brings lush, dense vegetation growth to the area, and many lodges close during this time.
The mighty Victoria Falls is at its most magnificent at the end of rainy season (April and May). During the dry season, there may in fact be no water coming over the Zambian side of the Falls, but this does allow for a dip in Devil’s Pool (and makes for great photogrpahs!).
If you are after the adrenalin caused from white water rafting down the Zambezi, the best time to visit is between August and December when the rapids are more exposed.
