BEST OF THE QUIRIMBAS ISLANDS
An 8 day luxury island lodge experience, in the magnificent Quirimbas Archipelago, a string of 32 islands that stretch for one hundred kilometres.
Largely untouched by development, the reefs are bustling with vast marine life, and both Ibo Island and Quilalea Island offer luxury, exquisite beaches, warm tropical seas, and the perfect base from which to explore this remote and pristine region.
Day 1 – 3 IBO ISLAND
From Pemba, Mozambique, you will fly via light aircraft to Ibo Island, a remote Mozambican island and once Mozambique’s mighty slave trading centre, lost in time and almost forgotten to the outside world for nearly a century. Nominated for World Heritage status, Ibo is the most unique island you will ever visit! The island offers majestic architecture, some lovingly restored to their former glory, while others have fallen into crumbling, marvellous ruins.
Your home for three nights will be the majestically restored Ibo Island Lodge. Your days will be spent idling away the time on Ibo’s idyllic sandbank beach, absorbing the ancient history and culture of the island, participating in water sports, birding, walking though magnificent mangrove forests, eating sumptuous seafood, and fully indulging in the romance and tranquility of the island. A true once in a lifetime experience!
Day 4 – 7 QUILALEA ISLAND
On day four you will transfer by helicopter from Ibo Island to Quilalea Island. The island is a private, wholly uninhabited island paradise surrounded by the pristine waters of the Quirimbas Archipelago marine sanctuary, and available to only the discerning few.
Your accommodation at Azura at Quilalea has a relaxed and understated ‘Robinson Crusoe’ castaway style that belies the incredible comfort and experiences on offer. Attention to detail is paramount in the design, the finishes, and the overall wow factor of this ultimate private luxury hideaway experience. The nine villas have been expanded and beautifully revamped in the quintessential subtle yet stunning Azura way, with spacious bathrooms, natural furnishings and pure African elegance.
Your days on Quilalea will be spent snorkeling the island’s shores, diving from the main beach, kayaking in amongst the mangroves, or relaxing in a hammock beneath the giant baobabs on the island. True bliss!
Day 8 PEMBA
Your paradise holiday ends with a helicopter flight along the stunning Mozambique coastline, and over the islands of the Quirimbas Archipelago, from the helipad at Azura at Quilalea. You will land at Pemba Airport.
