A 9 day luxury mobile camping safari exploring Nxai Pan National ParkMakgadikgadi Pans National Park & the vast Central Kalahari Game Reserve as we follow the vast and awe-inspiring zebra and wildebeest migration through these amazing untouched wilderness areas.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Nxai Pan National Park (classic mobile tented camp)
You will be met at Maun International Airport by your guide and transferred by road to Nxai Pan National Park.  This is one of the few national parks in Botswana where the rainy season adds to the attraction of visiting this area. Once the rains start (November – April) elephant, zebra and gemsbok migrate to the area. The springbok and zebra drop their young at this time, attracting predators. This is an area rich in diverse wildlife activity!

In the afternoon of day one you will explore the area on an open 4×4 game viewing vehicle, before returning to camp for a delicious wholesome meal and your first night under the beautiful African skies.
Included meals: lunch & dinner.

Day 2: Nxai Pan National Park (classic mobile tented camp)
Today we have the full day to explore the National Park on morning and afternoon game drives. We will also visit the impressive Baines Baobabs, made famous by the explorer and painter Thomas Baine in the last century. These seven enormous Baobab trees tower over the surrounding landscape.
Included meals: breakfast lunch & dinner.

Day 3 & 4: Makgadikgadi National Park (classic mobile tented camp)
A vast flat shimmering salt pan provides the incredible backdrop to the Makgadikgadi Pans Game Reserve. These pans provide much needed minerals in the form of salt licks for the herbivores in the area. In years with good rainfall the pans can fill with water from mid-November and can hold the water till the following April. This water attracts enormous flocks of flamingoes and pelicans, and can trigger massive migrations of zebra and wildebeest.

Our safari crew expertly moves the mobile camp to the Makgadikgadi National Park.  where we continue to seek the migrating herds of zebra, wildebeest and elephant over the course of the next two days.
Included meals: breakfast lunch & dinner

Day 5, 6 & 7: Central Kalahari Game Reserve (classic mobile tented camp)
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve covers a massive area of 58 000 square km (about the size of Switzerland and Denmark). Ancient riverbeds cross this harsh and beautiful landscape, and during the rainy season the rains attract huge numbers of animals to the area. Wildlife in the reserve includes wild dog, brown hyena, lion, cheetah, leopard, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, kudu and red hartebeest. The best game viewing is between December and April, when the game congregates at the pans and valleys.

We explore this beautiful area on early morning and afternoon game drives. On the game drives there is a chance you’ll encounter the majestic black-mane Kalahari lions. Like us, these lions, and a host of other hungry predators, are pursuing the migratory herds of antelope.
Included meals: breakfast lunch & dinner

Day 8: Central Kalahari Game Reserve (Haina Kalahari Lodge – or similar)
Today you are transferred by your guide to the lodge. You have time to relax, enjoy sundowners and dinner before taking a night drive to hopefully catch a glimpse of the rare nocturnal inhabitants of this area.
Included meals: breakfast lunch & dinner

Day 9: Maun – safari ends
After an early rise we will take our last memorable game drive, and then it’s time for a delicious breakfast. A scenic flight then transfers us back to Maun airport.
Included meals: breakfast
